Au pair meetings and au pair meeting memories

Besides our monthly meetings, many au pairs enjoy getting together on Tuesday evenings at the Starbucks in Avon (380 West Main Street, Avon, CT 06001). The Tuesday evening coffee socials at Starbucks are not official au pair meetings but they are a great way to meet and mingle with other au pairs!
However, the rule of SPEAKING ENGLISH ONLY does apply to all who choose to attend this au pair gathering and you are expected to reach out to each other and include everyone!

AU PAIR MEETING MEMORIES:

Self Defense class - my au pairs participated with enthusiasm, we learned many techniques in protecting ourselves and we all walked away with more confidence:
JANUARY 2012 - we had two meetings - some of the au pairs went ice skating, others opted for GLOW IN THE DARK mini golfing:
DECEMBER 2011 - our annual Holiday Party, my personal favorite! Each year we exchange a grab gift and the au pairs sing Holiday songs in their native language:
NOVEMBER 2011 - our all day trip on a school bus to the Yale vs. Harvard Football game:
OUR HOST FAMILY AND AU PAIR EVENT IN NOVEMBER 2011 - our au pairs did a fantastic job presenting the country they come from: Colombia, Brazil, Sweden, Australia, Germany, Mexico, Venezuela, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Switzerland and Norway!!
OCTOBER 2011 - My au pair group was brave to venture out to a HAUNTED GRAVEYARD - everyone survived:
Each year I invite my au pairs to join me on a hike to the Heublein Tower Toot Festival in October and it’s been a memorable outing year after year:

FROM YEARS PAST…….

None of us will forget our all day trip to the Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island. We met bright and early at 6:45 am to start our adventure on a rented schoolbus.

Unfortunately, the weather god was not on our side and because it rained “cats and dogs” we stopped at the Foxwoods Casino for some sight seeing and a chat with the RAINMAKER!

After some refreshments we continued and arrived safely at the Misquamicut beach - windy, cold, drizzling, but that did not keep some of the au pairs from having fun in the water:

TAGSALE at the Simsbury Community Spring Market in June 2009 - proceeds benefitting “Freshplace” - a new food pantry in Hartford.

Thank you host families for your generous donations and many thanks to the wonderful au pairs who volunteered their time: Rosa and Felicitas from Germany, Johanna from Denmark, Olena from Ukraine and Alanna from Australia.
